A few weeks ago I saw some nice shoes that I thought would work for a costume. I had no money at the time to buy them and put off getting them. They cost more than I could spare to spend. I found some cheaper shoes today. Like $10 instead of $35! I bought these! Definitely a sign :)

While we're gearing up now for Terminus in Chicago in a couple of weeks, I thought I'd post some more fun photos taken at Portus, the debut of a new look for us, some Deatheater fun, with two more Malfoy costume additions in the works, but for next year, you can't rush quality, and we have a grand plan *steeples fingers*. Anyway, the whole collection is posted on my journal and in my gallery.

The Deatheaters were marching to a cell phone chorus of The Imperial March, and the DeathEater masques were made by [info]dixiebell12, who came to the rescue when I ran out of time, what with work, life and all, and they are keepers. They were inspired by the workshop on here, by [info]jkg_vader. Hey, even Deatheaters have to have a little fun. ;-) The [info]droxy as the Dark Lord pic is credited to tapestrymlp.

With Terminus fast approaching, I am scrambling to get my costumes ready for the big week! As I don't have limitless funds with which to provide for myself a movie-accurate wardrobe, I'm making do with what I can find at thrift shops and what my sewing machine can dole out. As I've yet to acquire a Slytherin school tie, I am also trying my options out on that end. A dear friend (and Gryffindor) mailed me a striped tie that she thought might suffice, so I thought I would throw on what I have so far and see what it looked like. Too juvenile? Too... Muggle? Just wrong? Well, I thought I would let you lot help me decide!

Posted also to my personal journal, and to the revel_terminus community. Thanks!

So I want to buy a Slytherin PoA jumper. In case anyone of you guys wanna sell one, please tell me! :D

I was looking through the memories and found some links. The best price has Whimsic Alley, so I sent them an email asking about international shipping rates, but they haven't answered yet. Do they always take that long to answer? I sent the message 5 days ago :C

Did anyone from Europe ever order from them? How long did delivery take and how much was shipping?
Hope you guys can help me <33

Years ago I made my husband and I Yule Ball Krum and Hermione costumes for the premiere of GOF, but I was never pleased with them and their inaccuracies, so I made new ones for us.

We'll be wearing them to the Yule Ball at D*C; hope to see you all there! :)

7/21/08 09:43 pm - [info]mandymaria - The Great Melbourne Exodus

Stage 1 begins on Thursday when I attempt to drive my P.O.S. car back to Adelaide. There is a slight chance that it wont actually make it. I'm prepared for that but not actually worried. It's actually a very reliable car for a hunk of junk that I've had since I was 16.

I'm hanging around in Adelaide for AVcon. Saturday I'm wearing a Lolita outfit and Sunday I'll be wearing this. That's Livian from the 1980 version of Astroboy. Weather appropriate cosplay? Me? Psaah!

I'll be joining a few fellow ACGers on the Costume panel on Sunday at 11am in the Little Theatre. So if you're going, I expect to see you there! Come and pick my brain on costume making... or just come and laugh at my attempts to sit down in my awkwardly elaborate costume! XD

Stage 2 of the move starts on Monday when my Parents and I drive back to Melbourne in my brother's van and try to get as much of my crap back to Adelaide as possible.

So approximately a week after that I'll be back in Adelaide. Permanently. Which, even though I'm incredibly happy to be living back home in Adelaide again, is still kinda sad.

Curse mankind for being so technologically backwards to have not invented the teleporter yet!

I have had a very busy last few days. Went to see Batman on Thursday night (yay!). All decked out like a fangirl in my batman t-shirt and other bat-stuffs.

As for the movie. Yes, enjoyed it. Though not as much as I expected, although I am not sure why that is. It's strange, yes. It was a very very long movie. Felt like two stories, not one. Will wait until I have seen it a second time before I pass judgement. However, I think I still enjoyed 'Iron Man' more....

I still adore Christian Bale as Batman. Boy oh boy, can he talk any deeper. Sexy!

Heath Ledger's Joker... brilliant... but sad. Left me feeling so sad. I enjoyed the twisted direction they took him. It is so exactly how the Joker should be portrayed. However, the fangirl in me wanted to hear his evil laugh a bit more.

Harvey Dent, really enjoyed it! Not saying any more, too spoilery.

Squealed during some of the action scenes, especially one of the bike stunts.

Found myself leaving the cinema feeling really sad. Maybe that's the reason why I was feeling a bit down afterwards. Will say more when I have seen it a second time.

Friday we saw Get Smart again. Still loved it ;) Am so buying it when it comes out on dvd :)

Worked all day yesterday then went to a Tupperware party last night :)

Worked all day today and am now totally stuffed! Got tomorrow off so I can catch up on a few things. Got lots to do this week!

If you haven't seen this yet, what is the matter with you?

Go watch now!

I thoroughly enjoyed it. Tons. In fact, went and got lots of purty icons because I enjoyed it that much. Usually I'm too lazy or don't have the time. So yeah, go watch now!

7/20/08 01:41 pm - [info]chastangela - Who Watches the Watchmen?

Just got through watching the new Watchmen trailer.

And I'm impressed!

I love the Watchmen graphic novel.  I love how it's just so different from most of the comic based stuff that usually appeals to me.  The story is so well written and it's grabbed me from the first time I read it.

When I heard they were making it into a movie, I was like most people that really enjoy something...both excited and nervous.  Excited because it's something that would be amazing to see on the big screen but nervous because they have to get it right, in order for it to be as fantastic as the GN.  Thankfully, the last decade or so has been pretty amazing for comics and novels turned movies, enough so that the pain of some of the 80's attempts can almost be forgotten. *lol*

Hearing that it was Zack Snyder who would be directing made me breath even easier.  After his great work on 300, I have a good feeling about how this will come out.

The casting also intrigues me.  Lots of choices that I wouldn't have thought of but who, so far, look fantastic in their roles.  Don't ask me while, but I've always had a soft spot for The Comedian, closely followed by Night Owl II, so it will be very interesting to see how Jeffrey Dean Morgan and Patrick Wilson pull off the two characters.

Now, back to the trailer.  It's just a teaser but what I'm seeing already is very exciting.  The effects look wonderful already and seeing the locations from the book, right there on the trailer, that's awesome.  I find myself very much wishing I could go to Comic-Con this year.  Besides the usual wonderful reasons to go, they are to be showing some teaser footage from the film there and I would love to see it.  *lol*  I guess I will just have to be patient and wait it out, like everyone else.

And yes, while I am, and always will be a Marvel girl at heart, this is one DC title I really love. :D
